36 isn't that old to be using a straight for the first time. I was 46 the first time I used one and I am sure there are others who were older than me when they first started

Welcome to SRP! You have a very nice razor, which will serve you well when properly honed. I started straight razor shaving in my mid 50's; many of us are late bloomers when it comes to straight razor use and collecting. You will find many resources and lots of encouragement here.

you razor is a gem and that it was your grandfathers is a heap of iceing on the cake . read all you can in wiki, get her honed, pick up a strop8best you can afford) and brush and never look back.straight razor shaving is not only learnable but enjoyable too.strange as it may seem to you now you will wish your beard grew faster because you cant wait to shave. i jumped on the boat at 53 so much for not being able to teach the dog new tricks

Yep, thats definately in good condition and will make an excellent shaver!

Bresnick are affiliated with Dubl Duck I believe, and if thats anything to go by your razor will take a killer edge..! My DD's are among my best shavers and seem to take a really sharp but smooth edge. Love 'em!

    Hope you enjoy it!

I've already given this advice once today but here goes again...

This is your first straight razor. You don't know how to use it. Don't use your grandfather's razor as your first razor. Too often beginners drop their razors or hit it against the side of the sink or faucet. You'd be amazed at how easy it is to break a razor. If you have sentimentality about that razor, put it away and get another one for learning how to shave with a straight.

I wholeheartedly agree, get it honed by a pro for future use while learning on something else. Occasionally I get a chance to borrow my grandfathers razor from my uncle, there are some great memories involved.

    Great find...Great looking razor. Congratulations.

As previous posts suggested, get it expertly honed and try it out. Before doing so, however, consult the SRP wiki. It contains lots of useful and important information for those new to straight razor shaving.
