Nice Safe Recipe For Rust Prevention
I have used camellia oil for many years for protecting metal but if left on too long it oxidizes and stains. Mineral oil works but it has problems sticking evenly to highly polished metal. I decided to try a mixture of beeswax and mineral oil and it sticks evenly and does not oxidize.
To make it all you need to is to gently warm up some mineral oil and add a few small chunks of beeswax melt and mix. The mixture comes out cloudy and settles a little but a shake or two before use is all you need. It coats the shiniest of metals and does not seperate on the surface of the metal like pure mineral oil would do and offers great safe non toxic protection. Also, it wipes off very easily. I did not meaure anything when I made it but not much beeswax at all in relation to the oil.

I don't really need to use oil where I am, but it's bound to be a useful tip for many here.

Mike, thanks for the recipe, as an alternative here are some products that deliver the goods in terms of rust prevention. Unfortunately the best of the bunch is no longer in production AFAIK. R.I.G. is the greatest but unless you're lucky enough to find some old stock in a gun shop they went under years ago.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Great tip, thanks! Should come in handy now that I'm back in humidity land.
Wasn't sure from that second line above, but are you saying that it can be stored for later use? If so, does it need to be in a glass container, or NOT in a glass container, or refrigerated, or...?
Inquiring minds need it all spelled out.

What about TuffGlide? I know JoeD uses it and I've borrowed some on occasion - though, to be hones, I've never had any of my razors rust so I wouldn't really know...

I use this for my razors more than year, and it's very efficient. No rust and corosion at all.
Ballistol 50 ml Glas Bottle and New 100 ml & 200 ml Spray Can
Ballistol is very versatile. It is a disinfectant, is environmently friendly and you could even drink it (but you don’t want to do this).
Besides this you can use it for your razors, knifes, scales etc. Because it neutralizes acid (from your fingers) it helps to prevent stains on the blade and does keep it rust free.
You can use Ballistol for the care of wood and leather too.
Ballistol is used in the food industry for the maintenance of the machines.
Thiers Issard and other razor makers are using Ballistol for their razors.

Hmm, the recipe looks great but isn't it painfull getten the wax away from the bees?
The best product I've used for long term storage is AG Russell no-rust. Its all silicon based and once on never dries or evaporates and protects guns knives, you name it forever. No matter how many men you kill you can't kill your successor-Emperor Nero
