Most of us use Maas, Semichrome or another quality metal polish, a soft cloth and some elbow grease will do wonders.

Yup, All work well including Mother's Mag and Aluminum polish. Elbow grease is a must. A Dremel tool or buffer works even better.....

Cool, and that won't affect the shave quality?

Yes it will, unless you can keep the rag and polish that 1 little millimeter away from the edge.

When I am done and it is clean and ready to put away I wax it with Renaissance wax. It leaves polished blades very nice.

Usually if I'm going to do more than a very light manual polish I plan on doing some honing afterwards.

No, I add oil after every shave. What you will find the wax does it help seal the blade from corrosion but oil should be used after every shave. IMHO.
Renaissance Wax was originally made for the Swords in the British Museum, if I am not mistaken, so it is no stretch that it will work very well for razors and the like.

    Take Care,
    Richard
