Foolish thought?
I am seriously considering having a matched set of straight razors made. For some reason, I can't get excited about a 7 day set, and I would like more than a pair. I think I want to have a "week day" set, with Mon. through Fri. engraved on the spine.
I typically don't buy things I enjoy as an investment, but rather to use. However, I can see the AD coming into full bloom, so who knows. Now the question, am I nuts for considering a 5 day set if I ever decide to sell?

I think it is a great idea. I love razor sets. I have a few 2 day sets and 2 4 day sets. I love them.

Thanked: 983I wouldn't mind a 7 day set like that myself with the weekdays on the spine written in Welsh. I wouldn't think there would be too many of those floating around.

Usually razors (historically) are made either as singles or matched pairs or seven day sets. If your just doing it for yourself that's one thing but if you're doing it as a possible investment and if you try and sell them one day they will always ask what happened to the other two.

As I said, I don't think its foolish in the least. I suspect Mr Spendur is wrong. Firstly they will be yours to enjoy. secondly you will likely have a special case made for them that will make it clear to any buyer that it was intended as a 5 day set which will make it a unique item indeed and likely will sell more than the original purchase price, Maybe you could call it "the working days of the week set" and maybe inscribe the case something like "On the sixth day I rested and on the seventh God did" or some such nonsense.

Here is an original set of 4 that I got off of the bay. They are the only Welsh straight razors I've encountered so far. They are stamped 'Cardiff' which is, as you know, in Wales. For the OP, I have a few 2 razor sets including a set of Le Grelots in a fitted case. I also have 2 mint seven day sets that I've never shaved with and a couple of other 7 dayers in lesser condition that I have shaved with. In general unless it is a favorite brand I find 7 day sets too much of a good thing. YMMV. Two day sets are cool AFAIC.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Thanks to all for the thoughts. I suspect I'll proceed, again the main motivation is to use the tools. I must be a wee bit obsessive/compulsive, I just want to leave the weekends open to enjoy other shavers. I feel like if I have a 7 day set, I ought to use all 7 on the proper days.
Well, that, and being a little different doesn't bother me much at my age!
