    Default razor repels oil

    Hello

I bought me a nice straight off ricardo - kaufen & verkaufen auf Ihrem Schweizer Online-Marktplatz

it's some sheffield silver steel thingy.

pre-honed, shave ready (at least as sharp as my new Dovo), but:

When I wanted to oil it the oil just did not want to stay on the blade!!1

I tried different vegetable oils and the actual knife oil, doesn't matter.

i washed the knife in dishwasher detergent, but that did not help either.

    what am i doing wrong?

It's obviously cursed. You need to send it to me so I can lift the spell.

    Hehe!
Well, maybe the blade has such a high polish,it makes the oil run off? Actually, I'm clueless, but hopefully someone who knows what he's talking about will chime in soon.

I'm not sure about Switzerland...but do you have Silicone treated cloths..?
They are used mainly for Guns, but are multi purpose...They're great for wiping your blade down once dry. It'll keep it protected...I only use oil if the blade is going into long term storage...other than that, a quick wipe with the Silicone cloth...

Check this link to Amazon...Amazon.com: Birchwood Casey® Gun & Reel Silicone Cloth: Sports & Outdoors

Also, you might try some alcohol on a cloth, that should remove any coating on the blade without harming it. Make sure you rinse it afterwards..If there's any inscription or writing on the blade, I'm not sure about the Alcohol..so do it at your own risk...

Hmm, I have had the same problem with some sword blades. You put on what you think is a really thin coat and then you look at it five minutes later and it has beaded. I can only conclude that it is still too much oil and I give it another wipe. Not much help, I know. Possibly the oil is too thin?

Either this or it has grease impregnated into the metal.

I don't know but I can vouch for the silicone gun cloth zib recommended being a helpful addition to the arsenal. I wipe every razor I have with one after rinsing, drying with tissue and doing a post shave 20 laps on the leather.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.
