    Default Local antique shop

I found three razors. The first an extra hollow from the mysterious Manhattan Razor Co. That one being in the best shape, I went ahead and bought it for $25. There are a few pics of it in the Workshop.

Another is, as indicated by the tang, a Shumate Peacemaker. It was in a Tonso box, though. Does that happen often? It had plastic bamboo scales, lots of rough scuff marks, and a tip so mutilated it looked like some kind of gimp barber's notch or Spanish.

The third really intrigues me. It's wide wedge in a Wade & Badger box. Says Tillotson Sheffielt on the tang, though. That would make it quite old, wouldn't it? However, the scales are a translucent green/yellow plastic with imprints of an eagle w/shield, oak vines, and a house at the bottom. It also has kanji egraved/carved into the blade near the spine. 東?行 Couldn't make out the second one. It also has a 1mm chip in the edge. The blade's so wide, though I'm not afraid of honing the chip away. Idk if it's worth much, objectively, but I sure could use a wedge to contrast all the hollows I seem to be finding. I'd also love just to have one so old.

    Thoughts?

I would have felt soo awkward taking pictures in the shop. Especially without buying them.

lol!..yea..I don't doubt you..I meant..buy em, take em home..snap some pics!..hehe...you are lucky you have antique shops..here in Southern Cali for me at least 90% of deals are online..somewhere..almost everyshop for shaving gear is retail priced..I can't remember the last time ever walked into a store and bought shaving gear unless I NEEDED it ASAP.. Although I research EVERYTHING I buy..lol...
every time I read a post where someone finds something in an antique store..I think "Wow..bargain"!

By thoughts, maybe I meant information? I'd like to know whether they're worth getting for me. I do understand that the worth of something like this is highly subjective and would like more background info about them.

The one marked Tillotson, as I said, interested me most. As far indicated in this thread, the razor should be at least 150 years old! But the kanji and the scales are throwing me off. I can probably assume the kanji was some sort of personalization by some previous owner, right? And the scales may be horn? I thought plastic, but I've now seem some pictures of horn that was quite translucent.

The other unbought one is just in crap shape and ugly scales and I already have a hollow and an extra hollow.

I may just have to buy the wedge out of intrigue.

I'm in West Virginia (but not too far into the boonies) and old stuff is prevalent here. I think I saw some discussion about how the East coast and especially Europe has more older things than the West coast, just because of when civilization swept around to that area, and I'd have to concur with that assessment (in my not-so-expert opinion).

Goodness, I'm quickly getting addicted to this site/hobby...help.
