Thanked: 45Need a Birthday Razor
So I'm hitting the big 4-0 in another month and my wife was asking for BD present ideas...naturally I thought about a razor. I have only been straight shaving for a couple of weeks and am using 2-4/8 that I bought shave ready from a member here. So here'rs my criteria and any advice or if someone knows of one or a couple for sale please link it in:
Size-I'm thinking 6/8 simply because that is what everyone says makes a good shaver but am open to ideas
Style--I'm totally lost about grounds so any advice would be appreciated. I generally HATE collecting things that I don't use so it HAS to be one of the best shavers as I intend to use it daily.
Scales--love the look of ram's horn or stag antlers
quality--again this will be used daily and I want an heirloom quality piece I can hand down to my son, so it must be of highest quality/craftsmenship.
Age--muuuch prefer something old with history but might also consider something new. I'd prefer something with some patina and no blade etchings but again this is debatable.
So just curious if anything jumps right out that might fit my needs?

There have been so razors on ebay recently with Stag horn. NOS razors at that. Other than those, I don't know of anywhere where you can readily get vintage blades in stag or ram horn. TI has new blades in ram horn, though.

If you truly want an "heirloom" piece, there are two beautiful Livi Damascus razors in the classifieds as we speak...

If you love ram's horn scales AND it's your birthday, then there's only one logical choice -- you need one of the Silverwing II Limited Edition razors by Thiers Issard. I don't have any connection or relationship to anyone who sells these, but I wish I did, as I've been drooling over this razor for a long time and they are basically all sold out at this point, although I think you could find one or two retailers who still have them. Anyway, check out some photos, and you'll see what I'm talking about.

Have you looked at Hart Steel Razors. They are new and made in the USA they are very plain no gold wash are anything but imho they shave great I own 2 and my Birthday is comeing up and I've all ready told my wife I want another they now have a round point w/ wooden scales alot of people don't care for them price wise because you can get others. Look at all the customs some of the members here make I would love to have one but they seem to be in High demand.

Yup thats the one im talking about. i have one but it is the mirror finish instead of the satin. As for how they shave, i have two le grelots one rams horn, other bone and they are the only razors i shave with.
So to answer your question, yes they are awesome shavers and i personnaly do not shave with anything else but them.
Heres a link of me showing my razors off.http://straightrazorpalace.com/show-...ew-grelot.htmlShaving_story on Instagram
