Can we have a close up of the frontside too. The thumbs don't expand to give any detail.
Fair bit of hone wear on it. Usually the back bevel is much smaller. The shave should still be ok tho.The white gleam of swords, not the black ink of books, clears doubts and uncertainties and bleak outlooks.

That's typical hone wear on that side of the blade for well used razors. The person who honed that shaved with that side which is why it has all of the wear.

That makes sense. The front side has very little wear.

Usually Japanese razors aren't polished and have a rough look to them. You might just want to use some metal polish to clean it up. Maybe rewrap the handle. You'll have to decide how you are going to use it as far as honing goes with the hone wear it has. It's going to limit your options.

+1 on tbs's advice. Wait till it arrives & see what you can do with some polish. I don't think honing will be a drama but pics never tell the full story. btw don't polish the tang it's meant to be black

Well, first you're going to have to determine if it's shave ready now or not. Then you'll have to probably plan on shaving with the side with all the wear on it. If you want to use the non writing side to shave it may or may not be possible. Whoever hones it will have to make that decision after an evaluation. The honing it will need will depend on many factors and the method used will have to be customized to that particular razor.
