    No, you are correct.
Other than some notable exceptions like Friodurs etc, 6/8 is the norm.
Probably because this is about the ideal size for a razor to shave with.
Also because most german razors are hollow gorund. And 8/8 is rather large for a hollow grind. It becomes very flexible

    It's a Mappin, Lancet point. 7/8" made in 1848.
Some people like 'em, others don't.
But they are rare and hard to find. It took me a long time to buy this one.
If you search the forum, you'll find a couple more pics.

Does this comparison hold for new blades as well, say, TI's Sheffield Steel versus Dovo/Revisor?

I love the shaves from both for different reasons. The Solingen because it is rock-hard and will take a perfect edge and hold it. The Sheffield because it is so magically, buttery smooth that even a badly honed Sheffield doesn't irritate my normally sensitive skin.

When it comes to the total package, though, there are very few Solingen razors that get my heart pounding. Sheffields do, and I also agree with Bruno that the unique, artistic shapes of these razors lead me to wonder about the craftsman who I am linked to, through time and space, by this one-off razor.

    +1
    That's exactly how I feel.

My face gives a slight advantage to Solingen for edges, and my RAD takes Sheffield for looks

I'm not sure how qualified I am as I have only been SR shaving since February and have lmited experience in different makes of razor.
I started with a Dovo, then a Schultze each totally different shavers.
    Then I bought a BENGALL.

The love affair began, I now own 4 bengalls, however I haven't tried any other sheffield brand (Yet)

The solingen does feel harder against the face and not quite as smooth to use.
I might also have a sight bias in my choice as I am Sheffielder

    Sheffield for me

I have to agree on the Bengall's, I have one and it's in my top three. That and my Rodgers are my favorite Sheffield's
