What Is This?
What kind of razor is this! At first I thought it was a cut-down from a damage, but upon close look, it seems it was made this way. RIDLEY is the only stamp. There is a brass number 1 inlaid on the scale. There is no hone wear on the spine. It might be a mini wedge, or some sort of surgical tool. Scales seem to be horn and the spacer is lead. Very unusual cutter to say the least. Has anyone owned one? Thanks, RRR

Hard to tell from the pics since profile is not easily seen, but it may be a microtome?

With it's bob tail, narrow shoulder, and long taper I'd guess early 1800's. You see that shape allot from about 1800 to 1820. My refference books don't have that name, but I only have a few sources to look under. Without having it in hand to inspect I couldn't tell ya much more than a guess.
Looks like it would be a fine shaverLast edited by DwarvenChef; 11-26-2010 at 11:43 PM.

This is pure speculation, but that number '1' on the scale might suggest that this was originally part of set.

What is it?
I, also thought about it being in some kind of set. Someone took the effort to inlay the number for a reason. That number really shines now after some Flitz rubbing! I am going to give it a try for a shave. It feels good in balance to the hand and seems to be smiling for shaving. Maybe there is a weekday set somewhere missing a day...

Looks like a gracefully reground wedge from just before the Civil War.

Thanked: 443There's a similar one in the Wedge Club
Check out the photo at http://straightrazorpalace.com/681776-post154.html
The similar razor is identified as a Parker, 1820.
Tell us how this one shaves!"These aren't the droids you're looking for." "These aren't the droids we're looking for." "He can go about his business." "You can go about your business."
