Thread: Received my First Dovo Inox!!

Been wanting one, and cyber week gave me a deal I could not refuse. 88 bucks with free shipping. Was on sale, then another 10% off. It is not honed except for the factory, but feels pretty sharp.

Thing is R***l S***e says in the instructions to "hone before every shave". I don't think that is very good advise. Perhaps none of them use a straight razor?

Unless they mean that stropping is honing?

Perhaps Dovo has a new honemeister, but this one shaved pretty well right out of the box. I wonder if they've been getting complaints?

Used my MWF mixed with a touch of proraso cream (The MWF dries so quickly).

A tad harsh, but I think some more stropping will lick it out. no nicks, smooth shave. Thanks Dovo, you did a great job with this one.

Nice to have a new good shaver in the lineup.

I get the sense this is a question of semantics. By saying "hone before every shave," in all likelihood they meant to say, "Strop before every shave."

By the way, you might consider having the razor honed professionally. I find factory edges, for the most part, need a professional honemeister's touch.

On the third shave. It shaves so nice that I'm afraid to take my hones to it. Getting better with each shave. I still think I got lucky and the person honing that day in the factory did a nice job!

My other Dovo was sharpened by Lynn, so I know a sharp razor when I use one....

I broke the seals on it so I know no one else touched it.

The 41 & 105 Dovo blades have been, for me, quite exceptional shavers

They are as easy to hone as carbon steel blades, and take a lovely edge.

Great blade Jeff, I have one myself, It will benefit from a touch up if your using a factory edge, perhaps some paste...?...However, if your happy with the shaves your getting, then leave it alone until you feel the need....

Is the 105 the Micarta blade ?
Do you notice any differences between the 41 blade and the micarta blade ?

I'm sure i'll touch it up sooner or later... But for now, if it aint broke, I aint fixen it!! hehe. Perhaps a few passes on the 16k glass and diamond then crox. We'll see.

Yup, the #105 is the blade used on the EnVogue (Micarta).

I sold my #41 before I got the #105s, so the comparison is made from memory !

Both in the shave, and WRT maintenance, For me, I found there was not much, if any, difference between the two blade types.

The swirls on the 'ice tempered' #105 look very nice, but shave wise, the #41 & #105 were virtually identical

I don't know if any persons knowledgeable in metallurgy could comment whether the 'ice tempering' makes a deal of a difference or not - (is this the same process that Henckel used on the Friodurs ?).

For me, both the #41 & #105 blades are excellent shavers
