Thanked: 0PJM's C-Mon Blackie
My grandfather, a barber, who passed away in 1976 gave straight razor shaves in the shop he shared with his brother. In a recent conversation about his razors with my parents I described my favorite razor he owned and they couldn't believe I was accurate since I did not have access to my grandfather's footlocker for the past 30 years. The first razor they pulled out the scales crumbed to the touch, the next one had clear amber scales but the blade was completely gone, and I feared the C-Mon would not be the work of art I remembered. It was being stored in a cardboard Temperite box and was PERFECT! Due to the horrible condition of the other 2 razors and my description being spot on for the C-Mon they gave me the razor for safe keeping. I have tried to find information on the web, but not the answers I seek. First off what should I do to keep it looking brand new (displayed not used)? Secondly is it possible to date it? Any and all information will be greatly apreciated.

Thanked: 0Thanks for the reply, and while I knew to keep oily fingers off of it, I had thought placing it under glass would be good. On a different note my grandfather and his brother opened the barber shop together after WWII where my grandfather served in the Pacific and his brother in Europe. So while my grandfather said the best razors came from Germany his brother refused to use them, and now you say to put Camellia Oil (pure Japanese) on it! Finally together.....

Thanked: 1160Read the Wiki very thoroughly here and then take the plunge...you will be glad you did.The more I have used my straight, the more I cannot understand what I ever thought /if ever, what was so intimidating about a straight razor. In fact,I was thinking the other day how much more comfortable I am with my straight.Best shave you'll ever have....once you get over the learning curve. Straight razor shaving builds confidence and pride in yourself and your abilities. And there is no shortage of support and advice here....Happy Holidays and good luck with whatever decision you make.
