+1 on this! My 6/8 Dovo Special is the only razor I use nowadays after trying a few of them, even some more costlier. It shaves me really well, takes a great edge very easily and looks nice. I really don't need any other razor but I want . But the thing I will do probably is to get a pair of Specials and a nice Dovo hard case. All I need . But I'm not sure if I want 5/8 or 6/8, must decide! All in all, my favourite razor!

I'm still thinking about which first razor to get. Lots of people rave about their "special". Does the blade itself differ from the "best quality" (which also comes in a full grind)?

I was told By Lynn and Don at SRD that the best quality usually needs honing a little sooner, but that the blade was a good sound shave.I own both and My Best quality shaves just fine.and it's a good price if you don't have a lot of money. But foe a few extra bucks........Go with the Special.Again, they really are nice blades. And yes.....the more bling the higher the price, but all Dovos shave just fine. The only thing that I would say is to stick with Carbon steel.I'm just not sold on the stainless stuff.Just my opinion though.

Classic Shaving carries the Dovo replacement tortoise scales. They are out right now, but they usually stock them. Problem is that they are about 1/3 the cost of a new Dovo 6/8 Special. I would save some pennies and go get you a Special - JMHO - and I have to encourage RAD whenever possible.

    Lawson et al,

I agree completely. They are excellent razors and, oh, very nice picture.

Jumping on the DOVO Special bandwagon . . . My second razor was a 6/8 Special from SRD, purchased back in June. It's become my Saturday and travel razor, so it's gotten probably more use than my other razors, and still shaves every bit as good as it did when I first got it. Haven't had to get it re-honed yet. When I shave with it, I know I'm going to get a great shave. Thanks, Alembic, for starting this thread!
