Beautiful razor. I've got the bevel set on mine, but need to finish up the job.

Thank you all for your nice comments.
Before going to bed yesterday, I have been mulling over the sheer age of this razor. I must have stared at it for over an hour. By the time my great-grandfather was born, this razor was already old. The relationship between electricity and magnetism still was to be discovered. There were no light bulbs yet. People lit their homes with candles. There were very few hardened roads. There was no hot water from taps. Men went to barbers on saturdays to be clean shaven for sunday's service. Bay Rum was just about the only "after shave" you could get... It's mesmerizing. I love the way this hobby gets me all philosophical.
The Barber that sold it to me said he would hone it, but it wasn't much of a shave ready razor I found out yesterday. It will need some care to get up to par with some of my other straights. It's my first wedge, so no experience yet. Need to do some reading. Maybe also buy another wedge to get experience.

Great story and congrats on an excellent find!

Mine honed up well and shaved well. the steel was rather soft, I'd say. I got about 15 full shaves before I felt like it needed a few strokes on a finisher. I'm sure I could have gotten 30+ before really needing a touchup..I was just being proactive YMMV I'm sure, with steel this old..I'm sure the tempering process was less accurate when this razor was made!
