Double blade razor
Ever since I started to collect razors, I’ve seen only 3 photos with this type of razors. I didn’t ever imagine to buy one myself. Luckily someone on this forum helped me to find one. Thank you str8fencer. I didn’t really care about the price, at least it was cheaper than JMP razors.
Anyway, please meet double blade razor with the bone scales and amazingly good condition for the age. Barber’s notch and wedge shape. Based on Warranted and Cast steel sign on the tang I think it is about 1800-1820. I have no explanation about “London” sign on the blade, my guessing would be that it is made in London and not Sheffield. Well, may be not. Inside the scales blades touching each other, and sit really firm.

Good job. It looks heavy - now how the heck are you going to shave with it?
Find me on SRP's official chat in ##srp on Freenode. Link is at top of SRP's homepage

Nice example of the DE straight. I've only seen those in photos a couple of times. Pretty scarce item I guess. Let us know how it is to shave with logistically if you end up honing it up and using it.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Thanked: 3164Hi Traskrom!
That is certainly a beautiful, rare and exotic beast - I had high hopes of getting it myself!
Looks a bit like a 1950s style sci-fi rocket with the blades closed - I love it!
Regards,
Neil

Thanked: 1195I've heard of these, but had never seen a picture until now. Assuming these double edged SR's were intended to be functional (as opposed to novelty pieces), I wonder what their purpose was? I can only imagine that they would be used by barbers; if one side is beginning to pull just switch to your handy shave-ready second blade!
Anyway, thanks for sharing.
