Gottlieb Hammesfahr?
I won an auction of a razor I had wanted (finally didn't get sniped). The razor is essentially a never before used Gottlieb Hammesfahr in the original box. (it won't arrive until Friday, I'll post some pics)
I read a little bit of history on the brand and a little in Goins but I'm more concerned with how they shave. Does anyone have one? Is it average or superior? I've seen Grizzly has a few posts where he raves about them but other than that I haven't seen much else as to their quality. Any insight would help, thanks guys!

I've got a 13/16 that I got a few weeks ago that looked like it hadn't been used as well. I honed it up and it's an excellent shaver.

This company made good razors.
One of the longest-established Solingen cutlery companies.
Gottlieb Hammesfahr AG 'Nirosta-Werk', Solingen-Foche, Focher Strasse, 60. The company was in business 1684-1972. Registered 12th November 1875.
Gottlieb Hammesfahr (until c.1880)
Gottlieb Hammesfahr & Companie (c.1880-c.1935)
Gottlieb Hammesfahr AG 'Nirosta-Werk' (c.1935-1972)
In about 1971-72, Wilkens Bremer Silberwaren reorganized the company and brand name exists to this day.Alex Ts.

Finally arrived
So here are the pics, the razor arrived a day early! Razor is awesome, better than I expected it would be and I haven't even polished the thing yet! (don't think I really have to)
My only disappointment is the discoloration near the spine and nearing the edge. It seems easily removable and doesn't look like pitting, shouldn't effect the edge at all from what I can tell.
Unfortunately I may not keep it, I'm sending my Antoni Tadross to Glen for a restore and I'm not sure if I can afford both. We shall see

Maybe I'm not too much of a perfectionist with my blades and a little staining does not bother me, but discoloration????????
That blade is mint!

All I can tell you is that I would have risked my marriage had I seen it. NOS ???
I just got another one from Thomas at the Revisor web site, thanks to a couple of heads ups from the good people here, and I couldn't be happier. Seems to me that they were a respected cutlery firm and were in business during the war and made daggers for the S.S., I don't think this makes them Nazis however as I don't think you would say no to them if you wanted to stay in business. I only know of one other person who has one and he loves it,My two cents for what its worth is send it to a Hone mister and enjoy what should be the shave of your life if its anything like my two. ............damn,I cant believe I missed it!!!! enjoy it in good health

Thanked: 8Info on my razor?
Hello,
I picked up a gottlieb hammesfahr for less than $10. Someone really did a number on the blade and scratched the heck out of it. I have been able to get it shave ready but I"m not having any luck with polishing it up. It has 3 crowns etched into the side of the blade and the words "tres Coroas" under the crowns. All that I have found is that it may have been one of the earlier razors made by the company. If anyone has any info on why there might be crowns etched into it I would be very grateful.
Also, on the backside of the tang it has 507 5/8, i understand that 5/8 is the size but what might the 507 mean?

507 is probably just a model number. Check post 4 above for informaton on the markings
