It's your razor and you can do anything you want with it, but I'd advise against replacing the scales as long as they function well, and if they don't try to get them fixed first. In my opinion if it's not necessary to do otherwise, it's best to keep razors in their original state.

++1 ! The seller said the scales are near perfect but for a slight warp and offers a very generous return policy. If they are as he says they are you just need to be careful when closing them. Gugi mentioned fixing them. I think I read a tutorial by sixgun on lightly heating them and shaping them back to straight ? Might be imagining that. When I have them with a bit of a warp I'm just more careful with them. Let us know how you like it once it is honed up.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

So... Just how old is this razor that has never been used?

i'd say probably before ww2
you can straighten a bit plastic scales. the best is hot water as it can be done in a more controlled manner. but i'd do it only if the warping causes a functional problem.

According to manah's website here they quit in 1943. I don't know if that is as far as they went. I know in the '80s more than one old barber told me about FWE being a favorite. One reason you can find minty examples is a lot of those old guys bought extras and kept them. They die off and the razors come on to the market. Same thing will happen to yours and mine eventually.

I never was too far off from this idea but I am firmly in this camp now. Although I will admit to enjoying seeing some restorations, when the blade gets buffed down so much that it loses it's original integrity and scales out of Tom Wolfe's Kandy Kolored Tangerine Flake become the blades new resting place, I have decided to draw the line. To each his own.
