What's the joke? I have a Wapi and yes, it is a very heavy razor. It gives a very good shave.

You'll want to consider where the weight comes from and how it affects the shave. I agree with Utopian that razors in stainless steel scales can feel very unbalanced until you get used to them. Others don't have that problem.

Increasing the size of the razor affects how the razor handles. Also, a large full hollow can flex more than a small full hollow. A heavier grind can reduce the flex, but heavier grinds also have less feedback and add on even more weight.

There really are so many variables, it's difficult to take them all into account and buy a razor that will feel exactly as you expect it to. A new razor will always feel different in many ways, but, to me, that's why it's so much fun to buy more.

It was also (if i remember right) a "near-wedge" grind. It might be a good choice, if the original poster could find one. Maybe cut holes in the scales for weight reduction?<g>

Yes, they were quarter hollows. I'm working on a jig to safely drill the scales.

Noooooooooooooo!!!! Don't drill it. Send it to me instead and stop worrying about the weight.

Or maybe we could make a deal? I'm a really big bloke and I need the extra weight.

    Magnus

A nice 6/8's to 7/8's English "Sheffield" wedge is just what the doctor ordered, great size and just the right heft. IMO but YMMV.....

FYI, the complaint about the Wapi was that the SCALES were heavy but the BLADE was not. This resulted in a fairly extreme balance issue and that was the reason for the complaints.
