Thanked: 2591Carbon or stainless all the same, when dealing withthem they benefit from same care. I have not experienced any significant differences in honing either type.

I've not really noticed a difference between the two. They basically hone up the same, feel the same to shave with and look pretty much the same.
Supposedly the stainless razors wont rust, but they'll rust up just as easily as a carbon blade if you dont look after them.
I wouldnt worry too much about getting stainless or carbon, just get a decent make of razor that you like and is within your budget.

Thanked: 94For knives there are very significant differences.
For razors any difference is much smaller, and not a significant point of difference.

My carbon razor feels a little different than my stainless blade, shaving wise. A good quality razor is money well spent though.

Thanked: 267I'll lay it out there. There are people that are vastly more knowledgeable than myself that say that a stainless will not take as keen an edge as a high quality carbon steel razor. From what I have experienced I agree. Do you need that over the top keeness?...to each his own.
Take Care,
Richard

All I can say is I have some wicked sharp stainless razors that shave like a dream. I like 'em very much. Am I going to sell all my carbon blades? Not going to happen! Use and enjoy both, and treat them the same as far as rust prevention.

Thanked: 46So after messing around with my Henckels INOX, I finally got the winning combo for me. It is a coticule followed by A LOT of CrOx laps on a loaded hanging strop. I did notice something peculiar, it seems this razor isn't as hard as other carbon razors I have (I actually only have one INOX) and there was waaaaay more dark matter on the coticule after a couple of strokes. My strop also turned black which is cool, makes me think of work or something. Anyway that thing is pretty wicked now, rivals my dear puma... almost.
Any idea if the Friodurs are hardened to a softer level than Carbon ones?

Thanked: 1Carbon vs Stainless
In my experience it isn't so much one or the other. It is who made it.
