Don't be afraid to get a spike point. If you see a razor that you like that has a spike point I say get it. You'll poke yourself maybe but everybody's going to at first. Get it over with now now IMO.

I have the Dovo 6/8 quality razor (two of them) and they shave great. I like the TI Super Gnome or a nice vintage Revisor better (again I have two of each). Henckels feel just as good too... better than my Boker's IMHO.
Round point is easier, but spike works well too; in fact the spike is better for closeup trimming of my moustache.

Thanked: 1936Find another straight user in your area and try some of their blades out. If there are none, watch the classified's and "try" them all. Great thing about razors is that as long as you don't damage them, you can resale them if you don't care for a particular point, grind, size, maker, etc. Pretty much anyone who has been at this a bit has more than a couple razors...

Thanked: 442nd blade
Since you have a Dovo 6/8 already, I recommend you try a Dovo 5/8 full hollow. I find the differences "in use" due to grind & toe type are small, but the differences due to size (& the extra weight) is large.
I don't think the 5/8 full hollow will flex any more than the 6/8 half hollow - due to it's 1/8" less height. The Dovo best quality is very nice (not like the older pics that show grind lines, etc). If you want to go vintage, don't be worried about spike points. They are only 5-10% more demanding. If you are worried, just dull (mute) a tiny amount of the corner.
