Thread: EXIT General Tojo

Yes he’s big…and he’s mean…and he’s ugly and he’s here to kick your butt from Sapporo to Kagoshima. The only question is, are you man enough to take him on???? Yes he was hung after WWll but we understand his spirit is contained within this razor. Why Mr Death personally told me only Mr Lucifer can shave with this razor if he wanted to that is.

Welcome to the kamisori Pass around part deux. Thanks to our member Rmaldon240 (Rob) who donated a razor and of course some TLC from yours truly we are able to once again offer a Kamisori Pass around to those interested.

So once again this is being offered by me with no sanctions or connection to the mgmt of this site. I offer no services of any kind and have no active business dealing with razors or shaving gear.

The only change I am making from last time is I will distribute the razor in Geographic order-furthest from me starting out (sorry to the guys who were left on the last passaround). Also when you send the razor to the next person on the list YOU MUST PM ME WITH THE TRACKING NUMBER AND THE DATE MAILED. FAILURE TO DO THAT WILL MAKE YOU RESPONSIBLE TO REPLACE A LOST RAZOR WITH AN EQUIVILENT PIECE AT YOUR EXPENSE.

So please read the conditions VERY CAREFULLY. I WILL NOT CHASE PEOPLE DOWN TO GET MISSING INFORMATION THEY NEED TO SEND ME. If you are missing any data like for instance E-Mail address you will come off the list period.

So here is the deal.

I have no idea who made this or the type of steel it is made of other than the fact it’s very hard. Other than that it’s vintage. I’ve named it General Tojo.

If you want to use General Tojo PM me. This razor is NOT for sale and never will be. I’ll make up a list in Geographical order and send it to the first person furthest from me to begin this thing. This will be a huge experiment again so we’ll see how it goes. Remember to say in your PM that you have read and agree to all terms. ALSO, VERY IMPORTANT-SORRY OUT OF U.S GUYS BUT FOR THE TIME BEING I’M LIMITING THIS TO GUYS IN THE U.S. MAYBE LATER I’LL INCLUDE YOU GUYS BUT FOR NOW I HAVE TO CONSIDER FOREIGN MAIL SYSTEM’S AND DELAYS AND ALL THAT.

The terms are as follows:
1-you must mail it via USPS Priority mail SIGNATURE CONFIRMATION
2-You can use it for two weeks and then you must pass it on to the next person on the list that will come with the razor
3-YOU are responsible to ensure it is sanitized before use (I told Festus not to shave Baaaby’s err …hmm… you know what with it but he didn’t listen)
4-Feel free to strop it on a plain linen and/or leather strop. Any more than that PM me and we’ll discuss
5-agree to exercise good sense and care for the razor like it was your property. Keep the blade oiled between use. I will assume all responsibility for loss in the mail and damage to the razor itself (pretty good eh?) as long as you follow the caveat.
6-agree that I will not be responsible for any injuries that may occur to you or anyone who may use this razor either with your permission or not. So in other words you are indemnifying me from all responsibility of any kind. You will keep it locked up and away from all children at all times and all non straight shavers and those missing parts of their brains.
7-you must give me your complete residence address, your name, your e-mail address and your telephone number and say you agree to all terms.
6-you must also send me your first born as collateral, if you don’t have any kids send me the deed to your house and if you don’t own a house I’ll send Lucifer over. He knows what to do. (Just kidding).
Some friendly advice:
1-you can shave using either side however it is optimized for one sided shaving with the concave side or the side with the writing on it
2-Use very short strokes unlike a western razor where you might use longer strokes
3-Be prepared to use a higher angle than with a western razor. How high? I’d start with 40 degrees.
4-my advice before actually using it is practice holding it and taking mock strokes holding the razor an inch or two above your skin until you get the hang of it
5-Use very, very, light pressure (even lighter than normal with a western razor or you will get razor burn like you tangled with Godzilla)
6-The toe end is a SPIKE, it is like all other spikes but for two weeks it is your spike which makes it special. Take care of it and it will take care of you. Don’t take care of it and your face will look like Freddy Kruger. Seriously though, it will bite you unless you know where that spike is at all times and the short blade makes it even worse and did I tell you the spike end is sharper than, well, its damn sharp.
7-Enjoy either the closest shave of your life or the wrath of General Tojo who still wants revenge on all allied power citizens for making him lose the war.
8-Use this post to discuss the razor and your experiences with it and any questions and comments.

Kudos to Rob and TBS for making this possible again. I've got an Iwasaki and it's definitely my favorite razor (at the moment... ask me again tomorrow...). If you haven't shaved with a kamisori you should definitely try it out.

We'll let this run for about 10 days and then start this thing going.

Very interesting, I was doing some touch-up work on the razor and was test shaving this morning and as I was doing my chin some strange force seemed to move my hand in an awkward position and I nicked myself. The funny thing is instead of saying Oww I said Bonzai!. Then as I was cleaning up the razor and patting it dry I heard this strange voice say Aragato.

Hmmm.

I'll be closing phase one of the pass around this Friday the 25th at midnight so as they say all ashore who's going ashore. I will mail it out to number one on the list next Monday the 28th. The list? I'll put it on the forum over the weekend.

I've been test shaving with the General and dialing him in and getting him dressed out though he doesn't like the outfit I put him in. I think he prefers a military uniform. He said he was anxious to draw some blood-har har.

as Beadle Bamford says "The fastest, smoothest shave is the winner."

If you have any questions about using the razor ask first before using it. The only thing I'll say by way of advice is I know many say there is no difference between a Kamisori and Western or you adapt very fast but if you use it properly meaning one side only, well you'll see. Just from personal experience the first time I used one I was all thumbs and it was like learning to use a straight all over again so if you find it daunting go slow and easy just like you did when you first used a straight.

I gave the General a good talking to before I wrapped him up and he says he will mind his manners but personally I think he's itching for a fight.
