HA! Balance is a relative term, I suppose! You just stand the scales up and let gravity take over!

Thank you, Z. It is surely unusual!

    I rest my case.

I actually purchased one of these after I saw the movie.
Since I was well ignorant at the time, I actually tried to shave with it, straight out of the box (I know, I know, I was young and foolish).
That was without a doubt the worst shaving experience I ever had...
I plan to start re-using it very soon, but only to practise my stropping technique on an old belt. Not worth much more in my humble opinion.

Unfortunately, I felt the same. While I didn't buy one from the Bay, I was certainly mighty tempted to. I ended up having one of the guys from here laser-etch the same design on a clear-plastic set of scales. I came out great! Unfortunately I put it in the wrong hands to pin it on a great razor (I did the terrible pinning job). Long story short....don't buy it.

My girlfriend has one of those from a halloween costume a few years ago. It is absolutely useless to use even for practicing. The weight and balance of it is totally wrong. The angles of the blade, the shape of the blade, the size of the blade...basically everything about it is nothing like a real straight you would use for shaving. I think even with some serious grinding and honing, there wouldn't be a chance of getting it shave ready as the steel is inferior as well.

I like the idea of using the scales and replacing out for a decent blade, i can imagine the 'balance' may not be quite right, but it would still be sort of cool to have a razor worth shaving with in the 'sweeny todd style'

IF you could get a seven-day set of usable Sweeney Todd straight razors...I would probably buy it.

Otherwise they seem like a total waste of money.
