Thanked: 0Giant Straight Razor, two foot when closed
Hi, my name is Alex in Sydney Australia (my first post) I'm a collector and my friend who is a barber asked me to value his giant straight razor (no way) It's a "Blue Wonder" (two foot long when closed) in mint condition with a bright steel blade (like a mirror). He also has the identical small (standard sized) straight BW razor to match, again in mint condition. A most impressive sight and very heavy, a delight just to see it (no case though). Very little Google on these giant display pieces though I did see the various links etc on straightrazorplace (another great site). Can anyone hazard a $ guess?

Thanked: 993ManBower,
Unfortunately, we don't talk about appraisals or valuations here. You may want to contact an auction house, or something like that.

Sounds like a piece designed purely for display not intended for actual use.

Thanked: 0Maxi, quite right - my apologies to all. My barber friend allowed me to take a few photos of his Blue Wonder giant straight razor. This opportunity has highlighted that, unlike the back, the front falls well short of ‘mint condition’ (a fixer-upper in fact). This may be due to its being on display for many years in the window - chrome oxidization, colour fading etc? My barber ‘inherited’ it some 34 years ago along with the shop and thinks the razor could well be 80 plus years old. Nevertheless it is still a nice piece.

Thanked: 0Hi Mike, I was unable to get the pic to attach properly. Right-Click and 'Open in new tab' seems to work. But if not there are two pics on Flickr under 'Blue Wonder giant straight razor'

Thanked: 235I don't know about the big one, but I can tell you something about the normal size Blue Wonder. I was given a Blue Wonder razor recently by my mother. It is a 5/8ths half hollow which had never been honed. It honed up really easily. Usually it takes me three or four tries to get the edge right, then a few more shaves to get it perfect. With this razor I got it shaving really well with just two tries.
As for the shave, all I can say is it felt great.
I can say the Blue Wonder razor is a great shaver and it can make a half competant honer feel like a pro.
