I've used an olde razor to cut leather and foam, and it held up just fine. It was a near wedge though, I wouldn't use a hollow ground, to fragile.

Held up fine for THAT task, but you likely took off the shaving edge.....

That would imply that it had a shaving edge in the past 50 years I keep on telling myself I'm going to make some scales for it, and get it properly honed up.... Still haven't gotten around to it though.

My mistake, I assumed you were talking about a functional shave ready razor........

I use a beat up griffon for cutting the patch material before raming that 45 caliber round ball down the barrel of my flintlock, works great !!

when I cant find my cigar cutter I use an old pakistani to notch a v in the end of one....that way I at least get some use out of it.

nearly cried though when I saw a post on a knife makeing forum about turning old straight razors into wood carveing knives...sacriligous bast**ds

What a great idea! Too bad my pakistani "Zeepk" ended up in the landfill a few years ago. Just last weekend , I could not find my cigar cutter, still have not, but now I have an alternative solution to the one I used on a nice Dunhill.
