Hartsteel Razors
I recently purchased a new Hartsteel razor, 6/8, round point, polished with jimps and Bocote scales. The razor arrived fully shave ready and provided me with one of the smoothest, closest shaves I've experienced with a straight razor. I have several high quality razors, Filarmonica, Henkles, Dovo, Wapienica, Double-Duck and Thiers-Issard. None of these razors shave better than my new Hartsteel.
I would like to see comments from any other people who have experience with Hartsteel razors.

Thanked: 13226Here is your Ah ha !!!! Moment
A old post of yours
Labhoncho : "I have several straights, all but two were professionally sharpened. They are all carbon steel. I have the following makes, Filarmonica, Double Duck, Dovo, Henckles, C-mon Cadillac, Thiers Issard and Wapienica. I purchased the Wapis from The Invisible Edge in England and were sent to me shave ready. All of my razors shave very well but the Wapis stand out as the best. They provide the smoothest, closest and most comfortable shave of any of my razors. They have stainless steel scales which makes them feel a little unbalanced since the scales are heavier than other materials. The Wapis are also not the most expensive razors I own. "
I think perhaps you might just favor stiffer grinds !!!!! AH HA
When you decide you wanna toss those terrible full hollows away let me know I would be happy to dispose of them for you....

I like Glen's post. Mostly because hopefully he'll bundle them along with the other ducks in his will

Thanked: 2591Not to take anything from Heart steel away, but I think your other razors need to be rehoned?

is it your first heavy grind? Mine was a game changer. I love my hollows & extra hollows dearly, but I've not let go of any 1/4 grind. They're lovely. The Wacker 1/4 grinds are just nirvana.
Regardless of other banter - if you love it, you love it. Enjoy!!

I'm a big fan of Hart steel razors. They take a very nice edge and I also like the substantial feel of them.

I like my Hart razors, but I like most any heavy bladed larger razor no matter the grind. I guess I'm lazy, I like the razor to do some of the work!

Thanked: 240I have the Baxter of California version of the hart steel razor and love it. That said it is a stiff razor in my opinion a heavier grind like the hart steel razor is more cofortabme with softer steels like the wade and butchers. But as far as look, edge quality, hand feel and over all fit and finish the razor cannot be beat. I have the blacked out razor with black plastic scales. The scales are the best I have ever seen for being plastic, they have a woodlike grain to them and a weight that just screams quality. It would be nice if hart started making a hollow grind as I would be excited to try the harder steel they use in a lighter grind.
