Thread: Why no new monthly straight on straight razor designs?

So I have been straight shaving now for about 2 months. I had RAD pretty bad and bought a lot of stuff on the bay, and I feel that my sharpening skills are pretty good, but because I have never bought a "professionally" sharpened blade I am not sure if my sharpening skills are any good. I mean it feels smooth to me, but are my blades up to par with other razors that are "professionally" sharpened.

So I am looking to compare my sharpening skills by purchasing a new classy razor from SRD or one that has been refurbished by a reputable sharpener like bob keys, aka altima55.

However, since my RAD has subsided somewhat, I am having trouble finding the "right" new razor. There are a few on SRD that I would buy (like the master's) if they were ever put on the 20% off monthly straight, hint hint. I do love the shoulder-less razors. I almost bought the stainless steel boker because it was 20% off but nothing has even been put on the monthly straight.

So does anyone have any ideas? Anyone want to do a razor swap that has a "professionally" sharpened razor?

I wouldn't think twice about that, or any other, razor from SRD. If sharp is what you want then that is the place
If you decide on the classifieds, then most any of the razors offered there by the experienced guys around here will be good as well.
I haven't tried all of them, by any means, but if I may give a suggestion based on my own experience, I would see if hi_bud_gl (sham) has any razors in the classifieds. That guy puts a wicked edge on his blades
Now, I'm not saying he is better than the others offering razors on the classifieds, but I have tried his edges myself and can vouch for the sharpness on them!

I'm not a huge fan of the black star but I could use a new strop, maybe next month with a different option on the razor. And I am wary of Dovo's low cost options like the "best quality" I bought one of those form another site and returned it because it was actually "low quality."

Hopefully, SRD will update the monthly specials soon, it would be nice to see the master's or flowing on there. I am going to keep up on the bi weekly searches, but I can't wait too long for SRD because this RAD has got me itchin' for something new.

I actually checked yesterday and they added a nice Boker as the monthly straight.

Another thought though. It seems like the monthly deals aren't necessarily meant to change each and every month but it does happen sometimes. My perception of this is that they have an overstock or limited stock of something and keep it on special until their desired inventory is achieved. I could be wrong but I think the monthly wet shaving kit and razor/strop set have been the same for quite a while.
