Default DE suggestions for my 13 year old daughter

Just as the topic says. I don't know much about them or differences in models and varying ease of use between them, if any. Would any experienced DE users, especially women, like to make a suggestion or four?

Gillette made a range of Ladies DE's over the years. Are you after antique, vintage or modern(ish)?

The lady Gillette would be good.

The ladies Gillette is a good suggestion but don't get lost in the search for that exact model. The Gillette Super Speed is plentiful and will work well as will most all of the Gillette razors. Some are a bit more aggressive than other models but the type of blade will probably make more of a difference than the model. The same model Gillette will shave completely different with different make and model blades. I would say pick up a Super Speed or what ever model you find, spray it down with Scrubbing Bubbles. Pick up a sample pack of several brands of blades (google search) and find which one works best for your daughter. The local pharmacy or dollar store should have some to get the ball rolling but if she wants a good experience the DE sample packages available will help her fine tune the shave quality. Good luck.

I found my SuperSpeed to be a very mild shaver; easy to learn, easy to use, and gives a nice shave. I'd also say the same about my SuperSpeed adjustable. With both, I like Derby blades; the blades you choose can have a pretty pronounced effect on the shave.

I have a few years before I'm in your shoes. At that point I'd look for a Gillette Slim or Fatboy, they can be found pretty cheap in local antique shops, and for a young lady that's probably best. If she wants something "nicer" down the road they can be found, but a soak in scrubbing bubles, hot water, and borax will bring a great shine out of most any razor. Toothbrush and toothpick optional. I'm kinda picky about that stuff, so if it was my daughter I'd clean it up and make it look as new as possible before giving it to her.

Blades are about $1.50 a 10 pack at Walmart, less $/blade and greater variety online. The slims and fatboys are adjustable too, so she could change the blade angle to suit her, which I would want for my daughter over the non-adjustable variety.

    Hope it helps!

    Peace,

If you're after cheap, then one of the plastic "Nymph" razors would fit the bill.

I bought a SS feather DE. I like it. I hear they make a plastic DE razor that is good, too, and much less exepensive. What I like about the feather is I rarely nick myself. It is designed for newbies.
