Dubl Duck Special Wedge Info???
Earlier tonight I fished a Special Wedge out of the bay. At $15 I thought I did alright, for a DD. Of course it will need a restoration (will post pics).
I have heard of, and can find info for, most other DD models. But, can't find any info on this model. Looking for dating, model specs, etc. The tang has "dubl" above "duck" above "SPECIAL WEDGE". Other side is: Bresnick New York Made in Germany.
Has amber colored, semi-translucent scales.
Thanks for any help!

Special Wedges are very good, when you can find a full, unrusted blade! Those scales are poision to the blade as they are prone to cell rot. Mine has been rescaled in bone. Most I see are rusted! They are a light weight modern grind and are well worth having. I always enjoy shaving with it. This is my personal finding.

Ah... this has a little rust on the tang. Nothing near what I just got done sanding out of an Injun, though.
This sounds like an excuse to try making my first bone scales.

The special wedge was one of the older DD models and one of the few wedges they made. The other was the Satin Wedge made by Pearlduck much later on. They resurrected that model because barbers specifically asked them to.

Can you please post some pics? I'm not sure if I've ever seen a Special wedge. What size is the blade? I know the satin wedges are great shavers as most DD's are so I think you did great for $15! My satin wedge is on the smaller size. 5/8 at most. Even if it needs a little elbow grease you still got a steal!

Here are the pics from the bay...
I haven't received it, yet, so I don't know the measurements. I was hoping someone around here would be familiar. I'm pretty sure this will be my my first scales making project!

Thanked: 46Hi Peasel, Mine was the $14.00 bid. I had never seen one of these before either. Couldn:t follow the bidding as my wife is ill, but you have a very nice find. It will probally clean up nice. Sharptonn is right about those scales. I would get them off as soon as possible. Above all dont" put this razor with your others as the gas the scales release will rust any razor confined with them. Nice find, and Happy Shaving, wildhog

Thanks, wildhog. Sorry to hear about wifey. I hope the best.
Yeah, this is my first DD. The gas the scales release?! Please explain. I have not heard this before. Literally, poison scales! They must come off. This must be a scales project!

Some scales cause cell rot. http://straightrazorpalace.com/razor...s-migrate.html

Thats a good link! It looks like it has begun on that one, but not advanced. DD Satinedge,Satinwedge, and Special wedges in that particular amber hue scales are suspect, IMHO. I will get pics of mine on tomorrow.
