    Default Found a Big Wedge!

I recently stumbled across this big Wosty and I am super excited about having it restored. What do you boys think? Any idea what year it is?

Nice score! I wouldnt do anything much to that except go over it with some MAAS. The etch will be lost if you use any abrasives, so I would avoid that and the scales look to be in very good condition.

I wouldnt even unpin it, just polish it as much as you can as is and then hone it. When you get a blade in such good condition it seems a shame to remove the original pins and all that, I personally like to keep them as close to original as possible.

Let us know how you get on!

+1. In terms of restoring, all it needs is an edge setting for shaving. Not sure how old it is, but certainly pre 1895, before law required the country of origin to be stated on the tang for customs reasons concerning exports.

Unfortunately the back scale has the very top piece broken off, so this one will be getting rescaled.

Is the break all the way to the pivot, or just the top. If it's just the top, I'd still keep it, or at least try to keep the front scale.

    Really nice Wostenholm razor.
I have the similar razor, but the etching was lost.
Such handles, with the art of pressing a scene or words in color, was popular from the 1840's through the late 1860's.

It appears as if our razors are near identical. Mine even has the exact same coffin box as yours. What does your razor measure, 7/8 ?

    Yes, the razor is 7/8.
It wasn't first time, when Wostenholm made the identic razors, the difference was in handle color only.
