I'm for having both as well, I love new wackers and revisors (at least the look of them), would like to tget the hold of one of the Ti Grelot blank razors, But love my old razors too, esp my Puma.

    Default Both New and Vintage

I have 5 new razors, 2 NOS razors, and 21 vintage razors. The total cost of the 7 new (NOS) razors approximately equals the total cost of the 21 vintage razors!

I love both new and vintage razors. I finally checked new because my new Thiers-Issard Le Grelot is, without a doubt, my best shaver.

I would add that majority of vintage straight razors were made of better steel and there is a wider choice of vintage razors. Regarding price I disagree. Perfectly restored razor is not cheap, some of new models are cheaper. And what would you say about the price of modern chinese and pakistani straights? about holy trio Gold dollar, Krieger and Tamahawk?

First, not all razors have to be perfectly restored. They still work just fine even if they are ugly. Second, ugly razors present the potential to be cleaned up and restored to whatever level the buyer chooses, and provides a sense of manly accomplishment that has a value as well. Finally, the price of modern chinese and paki straights are pretty much meaningless, as they are nearly worthless at any price.

I actually enjoy a well tarnished razor. As long as the hone wear isn't too bad, and the edge of the razor's heel isn't too far into the shoulder (edge of heel) I enjoy using a "piece of junk" that shaves very well. Devil's spit is my icing on the cake.. the cake of Satan! I also like well tarnished razors because the tarnish is a form of protection against further corrosion (at least from plain water) and any new tarnish won't worry me.

My best razor is still a vintage I bought off the Bay for $15 and honed on a Spyderco system I had from my days as a Chef. I have 2 new razors, they're fine, just heavier and bulkier than I prefer.

I'm definitely a vintage guy, but that's true for a lot of my hobbies/interests in life. Sure a new razor is neat, and if people didn't buy new razors we would eventually run out of razors. But I really dig the vintage razor's I've collected from the tarnished 4/8 Wade, to the NOS Boker.

    Oh, and they're cheap.
