I've perhaps distinguished myself by developing equal skills in hacking up my ear with any point. 'Have done so with round points more than anything. I've always said I don't have 'lobes', I have living sculpture. Those aren't jimps, they're victory notches.
With not much time, you won't care if its a square, spike, Oblique or exaggerated spanish. The larger round points, where the end extends well beyond the edge is limiting for precise work around the 'stache. The subdued round points aren't bad that way. The last thrill was a wicked, exaggerated Spanish Point (D. Peres) where tip is almost 1/4" beyond the spine, and looks like a dagger. 'Very similar to the Boker spanish points, but further on the nasty meter. 'Took a wonderful edge, and the shave was heavenly.
New or old, you'll get to like the alternatives to a round point.

Thanked: 240+1 on a spainish point, if your going to go with a point you might as well go all the way, although that French you posted is a great looking razor in it's own right. This is one of the spainsh points I have Thiers-Issard Eagle Brand Straight Razor 3/4" - 7/8" blade Red Staminawood Handle France - Knifecenter.com a sweet looking piece that isn't too aggressive. I also have a vintage spainish pointed wedge that thirsts for blood.

Good looking razor, but if you zoom right in to the point, it seems a little curbed, not a true spike. Not the type that can tear a rip in your face if you're not careful! Spikes can be lethal, especially if buffing!

I have three or four spikes in my rotation and MAXI had warned me that i was asking for trouble. Paid no mind to the warning and using them in and out over the past couple of months. Then for some odd reason today I picked up my Wester Bros De-Fi which is probably the deadliest spike i have and on my first pass wtg stuck myself 3 times.
That sounds bad but the stupid thing was, I was making the pass felt the point cut in, did not stop the pass just continued and it was not till the 3rd slice that my brain registered what was going on. It was kid of like "doo dooo di doo... scratch oh that is an odd feeling...doo doo di dooo. there it is again....dooo Awww Frick I know what that feeling is!!!!!"
So apprently MAXI was right and I learned do not use any of them when not 100% focused

This was the razor that took me into spanish points: http://straightrazorpalace.com/custo...xe-custom.html
She is a biter, but then again I like it rough. I have since found that almost all of my razors since have been spanish points, I like the control that you can get. believe it or not I don't find them any more likely to nick after I got over the fear.
That's funny.

Dear God, is that what trolls use to shave? Ok given my earlier fervour for eye pokeyness, i think i need to be a bit more specific. I didn't know what i wanted until i saw that, but i have a kukhri that's less scary
Joking aside, that is a beautiful, stripped down, uncomprimising blade. However i don;t think it's for me, I think I'm leaning most towards an oblique point in a classic style with contemporary twist.
I sound like that chinese dude from "how to look good naked"...
Edit: Is that one of Bobs razors? I've seen some of his shavers aqnd i like the vibe, anywhere i can see a bit more of his work?Last edited by tekbow; 06-29-2011 at 09:20 PM.
