I'm glad that you like Randy's photos!
I had met the gentleman with the razors a few months back. He said he had a few. I played email tag with him for a few months and we finally were able to set a date. He gets the collection out and inspects/maintains it from time to time. He did that that on the day we were able to stop bye.
A very good long day was had and we were tired by the time we got home. I did get a few razors which will require some significant hours of work to be ready for prime time..those were shown on top of the white "Parts" box. None of the razors I bought would be classified as high as fair but all are salvageable.
After coming home, I spent a day going through that "Parts" box and unpinning and cleaning scales and sending some badly trashed razors and scales into the trash bin. I now have a fair stock of single and pairs of scales for renewing razors: They will be kept in a well ventilated area of my shop!
Saves:
And trashed with a lot more broken scales
Respectfully

PS. Single razors at shops are usually the rule now and the days of a dozen for a buck are long gone. I have been at this for a couple years and have found that the best way to find razors is to talk to people and become known to shop keepers and tradesmen as a bit of a razor geek. Some of my best leads were from shop keepers who called the number on my business card at a later date . Some of the factories made a million razors a year and so there will be some surfacing from time to time. I know of guys that went to a shop the week after I had a skunk and found a dozen razors, and vice-versa!.
Keep on looking!Be yourself; everyone else is already taken.

Thanked: 2209Frankly, we only had time for a cursory look see. It would take 10 full hours or more just to open & briefly inspect 1000 razors. I did it once for a collection of 600 razors and it is not a quick task.

Maintaining a collection that large rust free could be a considerable challenge, depending on climate factors. I thought I had too many razors until seeing this post, and it does take time to keep them up. For oils I have tried
1. camellia- good for every day care but does "dry" and stain over longer periods of time.
2. mineral oil and beeswax- the beeswax solves the problem of keeping an even film, but beeswax itself is not the best metal protectant
3. CLP Break Free Gun Oil- best so far for longer periods of time but does smell a bit for everyday use
Their are films that can be used as drawer liners that emit fumes that prevent rusting but I have never tried them.

If I know Randy that fellah will be down to 750 razors by the time any of us track him down.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.
