Boker razor on the bay
I just found this on e-bay. $18.50. A good deal?

Sorry about the bad link. I can't save the pics from e-bay to post them on here. It looks to be possibly a 6/8 Boker. It says "H. Boker & Co. Germany 1321" on the tang. It's a square point hollow blade but I'm not sure to what degree it's "hollowed'. The edge appears to be unflawed (no nicks) and I believe it would only require a minimum of work to clean it up. The scales appear to be in great shape though.

Thanked: 275IMHO --
If you got a sharpenable Boker, with uncracked scales, for less than $20, it's a good deal. You'll only _really_ know when it arrives, and you look over the edge with a loupe.
If the black marks on the blade are stain (and not rust), and there are no chips in the edge (as promised by seller), and no cracks, you'll have a nice razor.

PS -- I'm not breaking the "no valuation" rule when I say that I usually use $20 for my maximum bid on most eBay "needs sharpening and cleaning up" razors.
PPS -- all you have to supply is the eBay 'Item number' -- 270787278114 . Put that in the "search" field, and the ad pops up.

That might be a nice project. If you are lucky all you need is some polishing and honing. Looks like 5/8 to me.

Cool...maybe it will be in salvageable shape. it looked like the scales and the blade were in good shape. I guess now I just have to hurry up and wait.

I sent the Boker off to be honed. It should be back soon. Can't wait to take it for a test drive.

I went to the mailbox and to my surprise, my freshly honed Boker was waiting on me. I heated up some water for the scuttle, took a hot shower in preparation and lathered my face with a nice luxurious coat of Al Raz's Calypso. With the first stroke of the blade I had check twice to make sure I was actually cutting something. Without a doubt the stubble was quickly vanishing from my face. I finished my first pass WTG and lathered up for my first XTG pass. I quickly completed the second pass and moved on to the third. As I was completing my third pass (also XTG from the other direction) I realized nothing was happening. There wasn't anything left to shave. Shaving perfection.

Thanked: 275It's _sooooo_ nice when that happens with a new razor.<g> Congratulations! I'd give some credit to Boker, and a lot to whoever honed it.
I have two Bokers in my rotation, and may add a third. Not fancy, just good Solingen steel.

Yeah, bokers are very nice razors. I wish I had not waited 4 months after I started straight razor shaving before I got one.

I do wish this razor had some jimps. It's a little tough to hold onto with wet hands. Too bad I can't afford a custom razor right now.
