Thanked: 2I cant stop buying...
Hello,
Well I just bought my forth straight razor in about a week off ebay. I originally only wanted to buy one. Clean it up, rehandle, and learn to shave with it. But I cant stop buying them. I see one I like, do a search on SRP to see if its a decent brand, then I start bidding. I haven't spend more then $25 shipped and they all need to be cleaned up a little. I think after I get a weeks worth Ill slow down on buying, but who knows... I blame it on you guys:-)
Thanks,
Chris

You're welcome we got you hooked on an awesome hobby. Also, it's a better investment than... oh... I dunno, a 401k. ;-)

Ha it won't end there... I swore I'd stop buying until all my razors were restored and shave ready. That was about 20 razors ago... Pushing 50 now and still have a massive eBay watch list. Oh well!

I've got the same problem. Still haven't finished a single job I've started, but I just bought another one tonight. Started with the first three I found in an antique shop and I keep browsing ebay for cheap ones that are nearly over.

It's normal to buy some stuff when you are starting out.
But if you see yourself falling into a pattern of buying without a particular reason, it's best to reassess what you are doing.Til shade is gone, til water is gone, Into the shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath.

Thanked: 0I did the same thing a few years ago. It took a couple months before the fever had passed. I have a couple dozen straights which could use varying degrees of cleaning up, which I will get around to working on soon (i swear!) and a new Dovo I was shaving with occasionally... til my son broke it.

Thanked: 240Tell you what, you buy them and restore them then send them to me... This way you can keep on buying and have fun restoring and won't have a pile of razors on your hands.

socalkid,
When I started I said to myself I need two (2) razors. After a while, how about seven (7), one for each day of the week to add variety.
Now at 120 razors I am running out of excuses I suppose I could go for one for each day of the year !
Resistance is futile
Have fun !
Best regards
Russ

Thanked: 443I bought lots of razors in different sizes and different grinds, and a couple of weeks ago discovered what's perfect for me. So now I'm prepping all by my few perfect ones to sell. Haven't decided how far to thin the herd yet, probably down to 5 or 6. That doesn't mean I won't buy more in the future, it means I've only got 5 or 6 that are perfect for me now.
