persevere the work done
Well i have been working on an old razor for the past two weeks now. I had some work to do, so i had not worked on it for 3 days. but today there was new rust forming, not aggressive, i was able to use my nail to get it off. Should i cover the razor with like olive oil or some oil when i don't work on it for a while

Thanked: 993you can use a cooking oil, sure. also camellia oil is what many people choose to cover their blades with when they are in storage. I have also used wd-40, and it seems to work as well.

Ballistol is very good too. If you want to make it easy you can get a japanese tsubo (a little bottle with a felt tip that makes it very easy to apply the oil on to the razor).

You can use the cooking oil if you don't leave it on till it goes rancid. Also, some cooking oils are a little acidic. The other options above may be a little better but if it is only a few days olive oil is better than nothing.

Thanked: 9Cooking oil or other vegetable oils can go rancid, as others have mentioned. I'd honestly just stay away altogether.
Mineral oils are what I'd recommend. I personally have choji (since I have a katana that doesn't need a huge amount at any given time), and I've seen WD40 in use, as well.

Thanked: 1936Any oil intended for machinery or guns will do just fine since you are just just needing a bit of time to get back to it.

Im pretty sure that ANY oil you have in the shop or garage is fine, you dont have to go out to buy it and its already there,AND its better than nothing.
