Thread: Do you own any new or functiona lrazors that you don't use? For collection purposes?

I know that razors are a tool. I bought a 7 day set at a antique show. It's in mint condition. I've never used it to keep it in mint condition. I also have a custom that I haven't used yet. It was a bear to hone so I sent it out to Sham. He even had some problems with it. I guess it may not have been tempered properly. I haven't used it because it was so hard to get a shaveable edge. I also got a Livi regrind that I've only used once. I have other examples as well. Razors that I paid a good amount for, or had them rescaled. It seems when I really covet a razor I tend not to use it as often as others. I don't know if it's a sub-conscience thing to keep them pristine?

Do you guys have any razors that you don't use for whatever reason? I'm not taking about razors that you just haven't restored/honed yet.

Anyone else have a similar problem?

Nope, I only bought razors that I planned to use. I wanted some variety, so I took my time and only bought razors that really caught my eye, but once I had 7 vintage razors that I really wanted plus a new DOVO Special, that was kinda it. I do have an old Wosty wedge or near-wedge with some sort of Masonic engraving on the blade that I need to get restored and rescaled. Then I'll have to figure out whether I want to occasionally work it into my rotation or sell it.

When you have a lot of razors, few get used a lot.

Yea, when you get to a certain point where you have many razors they don't all get used on a constant basis but even then you have certain favorites you gravitate to. I try to at least occasionally use all of mine but some do get lonely. However, I never bought any razor not intending to use it.

I think the 7 day set and a DD Grimreaper are the only two that I bought that I had no intention on using. I'm going to make a effort to use those bad boys that have been neglected.

Like Lummus, I use every razor in my collection. This carries over to my humidor as well.

My situation exactly!

I use all of mine, why pay a whole bunch of money for something that you won't use? for example i play all my collectable LPs (unless sealed) all my razors and all my shoes (there are some crazy sneaker heads that spend thousands of dollars on shoes and just leave them in their respective shoe boxes in their closets!

I have just one razor that I don't use, and it's a pakistani razor that I bought for mistake... I'm keeping it as it is with the idea to put it in a frame and make some decorative present to somebody who can appreciate the shape but would never use it. Who knows, maybe sooner or later I'll give it a test shave just to be sure I'm not giving away a useful tool, but I am not so confident about the result...
