H. Koopmann razor at the antigue store - worth it?
Hello,
I just spotted a razor by H. Koopman and was hoping someone could tell me if its worth purchasing.
It has some rust on the tail, other thatn that just the standard crud on the blade. On the tang it says H. Koopmann Solingen and on the back of the tang it has 1 1/4.
It is HUGE and at least somewhat hollow ground (not a wedge) and has either black plastic or bakelite scales. I'm tempted just for the size of it.
asking $30 I offered $20. What do y'all think?

Solingen Blades make good shavers. If you think you can clean it up, go for it. 20-30 bucks isnt alot to spend on a vintage blade.

I've been stalking all the restoration pages and I think I can with some effort. This one might just end up being my restore-practice blade.
Thanks for the help.

Now with Pictures
Ok, I bought it figuring I'll use it to learn restoration since there is no blade etch or gold wash etc... It says 1 1/4 on the back of the tang, but i measure it an 8/8.

Thanked: 433The problem with this one is the rust on the blade edge, but there's lots of blade to work with being a 8/8 so it hopefully will sand off/out.

Yeah, i hadn't really thought about that... still, i think it's gonna be just fine to learn restoration/honing. Maybe I'll end up with a sweet 3/8!

Take a little wet/dry 220grit sand paper to it and lets see how bad the pitting is. I dont think it will be as bad as you think.
