Thanked: 0Info Wade & Butcher
Hello, to all members of this fantastic forum
I'm a new fan of straight razor: a few days ago, I bought a razor Wade & Butcher.
I would need more information about this razor (see attached file): model, size, date, steel and any other details.
Thanks a lot!!!

I'm fairly new to str8s so you can take this for what it's worth but I think it's safe to say it has been restored, the scales appearto have been replaced. The pins having three washers is something Ive not ever seen on a W&B. Also the blade looks like it has been polished to a miror finish and in doing so it appears that some of the original manufacture stamp has been lost. It's hard to say what size the blade is but I'd guess it's around 5/8 with a barbers notch. In any case it's a fine looking razor and can speak from expierience that they are good shavers.
Good find, Enjoy!

Looks a bit cleaned up to me, it just doesn't have that vintage "patina". The blade is nice and shiny, the translucent horn is nice. clean and bright as are the domed washers. The pins are probably new, cant tell for sure from the pics so I have to ask, is the wedge lead?
It is easier to fool people than to convince them they have been fooled. Twain

Thanked: 0Thanks for the reply...
This is that I know:
1. previous owner has restored and I think that the pins have been replaced to polish the scale
2. the seller told me that is a 13/16" wedge - Scales Horn
Here more photos and a photo before restoration
What is the periodo that W&B produced?
This is the razor before restore:

The blade is made in Sheffield (no England) so, before 1893. The scales may be original (as may be the spacer but it's really difficult to say after the restoration. How does it shave and do you like it?

Thanked: 0Thanks Alan...
A wedge of that size is phenomenal. The feeling is great. I have a delicate skin and this blade runs very sweet, however, giving a good depth of shaving.
What's the difference between "made in Sheffield" and "made in England" in history of W&B ?

It's not specific to Wade and Butcher. There was in agreement reached in Madrid in 1891 (sorry about saying 1893 earlier, for some reason that always sticks) whereby country of origin had to be stated along with the city. Manah's post (number 11) here contains some useful links.

Thanked: 0Thanks Alan for the inspiration.
Thanks a lot manah ... than from what I understand should be dating before 1891, because the razor don't mark with the country of origin.
