    Default Antique razor case.

Found an interesting Antique razor case at the antique mall yesterday. It had 9 razors in it all were junk but couple, there was a somewhat decent W&B with the engraving on the blade that reads, "you lather well, il shave well". I will probably restore this one, a couple others are decent enough I think I will let my boys restore them as it will be no loss if they mess up.

I paid 60$ for it which was pushing it in my opinion of the value, but I am excited about using it as a template for making one like it out of exotic wood.

I might even restore it, does anyone know anything about the " paper leather " that was used on it? Is their a modern source for something that looks similar?

I found a source of embossed reptile paper for cheap. I am ordering a couple of colors of it, and will either restore this one or make another just like it.

Edit: I just ordered 3 sheets 24x36. Gold, brown and red crocodile pattern.

Think long and hard before destroying. That's a very nice thing you have there. Is there a local museum with a restorer near you that you could take it to?

No I live in nowhere America. more than likely I will build another one just like it using this one as a template.
That and I am not rich and can't afford to pay someone else to do work I have the skill and time to do.

I don't think I coud describe properly how excited I would have been about finding something like that. haha That is really neat! I live in nowhere America too, and have yet to find a single razor or razor associated item within an hours drive. Figuring fuel in, means my searches are limited to the surrounding 20 mile radius...of which I still have no luck. But, congrats to you on a really cool find. I hope to see the finished replica someday!

    Let's start from top left.

thistle cut brand New York - decent enough shape, my 17 year old is sanding on it now. keeper
Wade & butcher - " you lather well, I'll shave well". This one I will restore myself.Keeper
Oxford razor Germany - nice but Heavily pitted - kind of a keeper
Crown razor, Boston - blade etching of a crown and " extra hollow ground - fully warranted". Heavily pitted - junk

    Bottom from left

White hardware co. - blade is only half length - junk
SSA Sweden - heavily pitted and over honed - junk
Wade & butcher - nice thin bone (or ivory.? I suck at Identification. Too worn. - junk
Joseph Rogers and sons - the blade is decent I will restore the blade and put new scales on it. Keeper sorta
Joseph Allen & sons- with a battle ship blade etching- big frown and too honed out - junk

Other than the W&B I would not pay more than 10$ for the keepers. I have lots of antique stores around and could go buy nicer razors right now than all of the above keepers for $10-15$

I guess if my only option was eBay, then I might have a different opinion. And not call them junk. But I have other better options.

That is cool! Looks like a nice way to store a dozen razors in a small package. Something like this would make a great project for my daughter to make in her shop class this year.

Is there any way I could talk you into giving us some dimensions ?

    Ray
