Filarmonica & Dubl Duck question
What is the significance of the numbers on Filarmonica straights ? For instance I have seen two listed as #12 but one says double temple and the other says NOVODUR....
Also I recently purchased a Dubl duck Goldenedge and would like to know how old it may be?
Thanks!

Thanked: 8The numbers are mostly refering to size: 12 -> 5/8, 13 -> 6/8, 14 -> 8/8
Not all filarmonicas have a number though, Doble Temples and Novodurs happen to have a number. Both are the same blade with different finishes and scales. Novodurs seem to have fancier blades and etchings. They were, according to the etching, made for "profesionales" which in spanish culture means people that have a college degree and high salary or it can mean that they thought of "barbers" as "profesionales".

When I was new one of the guys with many decades of experience told me that Novodur was just a new branding for the Doble Temple model. I don't recall ever having a Novodur, so I can't really confirm whether the grind is the same.

Well, there's a fair bit of variation in size for the #14. The #12 are a 5/8 razor and the #13 are a 6/8 razor. There are small differences from one to another, some are on the 'lighter side' and some are on the 'heavier side' for the size, but for all practical purposes those are the standard sizes that they handle like.
The #14 is anything from 7/8 to 8/8.
Also I don't count the ones that classicshaving had - to me it's a different razor altogether even if it came out of the same old blank.

Thanked: 414/16 never heard of that specific fraction. Usually its 13/16 or 15/16. Basically these fall a little short of 7/8 and 8/8 respectively. Have a Filamonica Sub Cero singing SR. Great shaver. I did ask about those and the most hunted is EPBD, Sub Cero,...Have not tried the 2nd brand SR
