Thanked: 485My New Acquisition
I received my NOS Schulze "Weiner Schaber" tonight. What a different razor! It really is quite small; now I know why someone said they're like a sports car. It's really nicely balanced and while feeling it's weight and balance in my hand I wondered how much it actually weighed in comparison to my other razors. I found the Schulze is 26g, heavier by 2g than the Klas Törnblom which weighs 24g. The Burrell weighs 32, the Erik Anton Berg 32 and the W&B 30. I then considered the balance of each, and tried to judge if they were blade or scales heavy or balanced. I started to write down my thoughts and then decided that it was too ambiguous, and probably impacted on by the angle of the open razor anyway. Later, I changed my mind and decided that given one holds the razor in the hand in much the same way each time (I use a three fingered grip - index finger and second finger either side of the scales, thumb below the index finger) it was a valid 'test'. However, I did think the Schulze was blade heavy initially. .........Which isn't a bad thing.
Interesting that it's so small. I haven't used it yet but I'll be curious to see how it goes.
I have only one more razor to buy before I'm at my new limit of 6.
I'm trying to make them a bit diverse. The new razor has what I believe to be termed a slight French/Irish point which will be interesting to evaluate. The other razor I've planned to be my last and most expensive has a Spanish point. I don't have a wedge, and won't have anything bigger than a 5/8, but at this stage, for me, I don't think I need a big heavy razor. I'm quite happy with the styles and diversity I'm building.
So I'm close to getting completely set up (as much as one can be without overdoing it and annoying SWMBO too much) with 6 straight razors for Sun - Fri and a nice DE for Saturday.
Another three-razor case; maybe another strop and a continuing supply of exotic soaps, creams and after shaves and I'm set...
Quite happy, really...

Thanked: 485Ta, it'll be interesting to see if it needs to be honed. I believe it's NOS, but I've no idea when it was made. I wouldn't think it's been honed recently and I've only stropped it (30/70) and rubbed it with Eucalyptus oil. I'll strop again before shaving with it, but it'll be intersting how the edge is...

Thanked: 993oooooo, I like.
Shoulderless blades are kinda cool. It's like having an index finger rest.

I bought a NOS Seehund a while back and it was very nearly shave ready. In fact the seller started advertising them as shave ready. For my tastes it did need a little light work on the hones but considering it had been lying around for about 40 years it was still in good shape.
