    Default New Thiers -Issard unhappy

Just got my Thiers-Issard Silver steel 6/8 in black horm scales yesterday ,and I can not get over how bad the alignment of the scales are and uneven they are.At over 250 dollars I was expecting better quality.I have rescaled a couple razors myself and have done a much better job .I have not used the razor and am thinking of calling CS and see if they will sawp it for a better one .Do any of you guys know if this is the norm for TI ?Also would you live with it or send it back?

    Thanks Sharps

TI's have always been good shavers and nice razors (I personally own quite a few of them) however, there have been numerous complaints regarding pin alignment and situations similar to yours over the years. A lot of the new ones have a bevel that is wider on the front side than the back and many have uneven grinding and flattening on the spines. We have seen where it looks like the heel of the razor was broken off in the manufacturing process and the razors were still sold like that as if it was what was intended. Most of the vendors are pretty good about working with you.

    Have fun.

Scales have never been TI's strong point
I saw some really beautiful ones at the Denver Meet Up that made me think that they had really pushed up the level of QC too...

edit: On the question of keeping it or sending it back I guess it depends on your plan, when I bought a new TI for myself back in 09 I knew the score on the scales and bought the cheapest "Stamina" wood version on the blade I wanted because I had every intention of re-scaling it myself...
Again though, I knew in advance that the chances were that they might be "off" I have pics someplace of the originals, they were pretty bad...

Hate to hear that Sharps. I have been wanting a TI in the future. CS should have no problem helping you out. Good luck.

QC at TI is an old story. I thought they were getting their act together more recently but I guess old habits are hard to break. I have several TIs and some are perfect and some have varying degrees of issues. Probably the worst is the Thiers LE Razor. The pinning is so bad it looks like a Chimp did the pinning and a badly trained one at that. I'd post a picture of it but I don't want to see anyone cringe.

You could check this SRP thread out: klick here

I'm still a little ticked about it and I haven't got an answer from TI ... yet

I recently got a 5/8 TI from Art of Shaving, I sent it off to Lynn to be honed and he reported uneven spine wear from either bad honing or a bad grind, The dealer was willing to exchange it, but as I had already had it honed by Lynn I kept it,. Shaves nice now

If its a good dealer they should offer to exchange it

For the money you spent , you should expect top quality . You have every right to expect a decent razor , or a refund .

The vendor should help you out.

However, before blaming TI keep in mind, horn is a natural product and it can warp with environmental changes. I had a pair of horn scales dead straight and over the course of a few weeks contorted drastically making the razor not close properly. All I'm trying to say is that razor might have been perfect when it came from the factory...or it may not have. Please just have an open mind when judging QC on product made with natural materials.
