I don't drink (personal choice, not religious conviction). But I love the Dos Equis (XX) commercials. They always make me laugh. But if that guy was so manly, why's he always got a scruffy face?

    "Stay smooth my friends."

Glad you threw that in mate. One could argue the case that real men grow beards after all.

The Dos Equis commercial comparison is awesome.

Although there has been a whole lot of good reasons for using a straight, I wanted to add a couple comments on the advantages. The number one advantage (for me) is that once you learn to shave with a straight, it will almost certainly increase your shaving proficiency with any shaving tool. You'll understand more about how to cut the hair and most importantly, you'll know more about your own face (shape, angles to cut, bad spots, etc.). You could buy a sub $50 shave ready razor off of classifieds or whippeddog and it would be worth it just for the learning experience.

If you want a good shave that is as quick and as cheap as possible, I would suggest DE's. You can get a good shave, it's relatively fast, and the long term price is quite low. In theory, a straight could be cheaper long term, but how many people buy only one straight? If you want to get as close a shave as you desire (at the time your shaving) and you want to enjoy the shaving experience as much as possible, go with a straight.

Gotta warn you about the "never HAVE to buy another razor" comment. It's a rare forum member who doesn't find themselves beginning a collection of razors that they don't have to buy!

As others have said you only need just the 1 good razor or perhaps 2 to 3 maximum to last you your whole lifetime thereby saving thousands of dollars on having to buy a continuing supply of throw away razor cartridges.

But the big problem with only owning 1 to 3 straight razors for your whole life is that it will seemingly makes one’s life feel awfully too short. Whereas if you were to purchase thousands of throw away cartridges your life may appear a lot longer especially if you were to collect those cartridges in a big bucket as you could say to yourself “look at all those cartridges, that’s many many years of shaving.”

So the solution is a good and self-medicating one code named RAD, to purchase many many straight razors as desired so you can reflect back on them in years to come and say to yourself “look at all those straight razors, that’s many many years of non-regrettable addictive razor collecting!”

Well that’s my theory and I’m sticking to it.

LOL! Coming from DE shaving (I have thousands of blades & 8 safety razors), I'm quite determined to stick to 2 straight razors. 1 carbon steel and 1 stainless steel.

Although I haven't experienced any women swooning yet, there has been a lot of men retreating in the face of my awesome manliness. I am to them as a Viking in comparison. Hear my barbaric yawlp.

If that avatar is a picture of you, I must say you missed a bit on your last shave. It's no wonder that other men see you as a bit Viking-esque...
