Thanked: 56I don't mean to be rude, but on what basis do you say it looks good to you? If you think it looks good you should have a reason and I would love to know what that reason is?
Carl.

Thanked: 56Have you ever bought a "Gold Dollar" Razor? They look amazing. They also take an edge, but they too sound like crap on the hone/strop.

Thanked: 56Have you had a gold dollar? The goldwash looked good, the pins were as good as any I have seen (I buy and sell razors), the scales were the same as a set that came on a crown and sword (aside from the gold dollar writing and prob the material but you cant tell this from looking).

Thanked: 1262I have 2 sitting in front of me right now. They can take an o.k. shaving edge once you fix the problems, as long as it is just not plain buggered.
Goldwash, pins, scales, grind make it very obvious that it is a $5 razor though.
I do not sell razors to often, but I have bought quite a few to compare too.....
Edit: Apologies to the OP for replying to an off topic and making your thread even more off topic.

I have had a number of gold dollars come across my honing station that I received from others, I haven't bothered to buy one yet.

Thanked: 56If you know how to hone, you can shave with a butter knife. It WILL take an edge, but it is not a good edge. GD is a very poor razor, I bought one to see what all the fuss was about, and I pretty much have the same opinion. It will shave, just not very well.

Thanked: 884WELL?
It took a nice edge and shaved sweet. I think it's the real deal.
Sounds kind of funny on the stone compared to what I've been honing on but it is a razor in my book.
One of these days I'll have to invest in some real hones. All I've got is some old "hand me downs" that I trued up, but they work OK for touching up an edge.
Thanks for all the input and no apologies needed by anyone. I've enjoyed reading the responses.
