The "tortoise" scales are also gone. Make sure you toss those as soon as possible. Looks like you got yourself a few shavers there, good catch.

Well, the package arrived, and although none of them are going to win any beauty contests, the razors (apart from the one with the missing chunk) are in mostly decent condition. One of them has some discoloration that makes me think the temper is probably shot, and a couple have scales that seem to be too small (the blade hits the "sandwich" bit at the end). The scales are all very chintzy feeling after the lovely ironwood scales on my new Dovo, but I am hoping to fix that. The blades also all seem very narrow compared to the 6/8 on the Dovo, but maybe that had something to do with the experience below.

I just picked one that seemed to have a decent blade ("AIG" brand, made in Allegany, NY), gave it a few passes on the Norton 4000/8000 then a good stropping, and it passed the HHT with flying colors, so I gave it a go. Gave me the closest damn shave I have had yet (out of the whopping six straight shaves under my belt!)!

I am sure it's mostly due to my prep and technique slowly getting better, because I find it hard to believe this is outperforming my lovely new Dovo, but looks like you guys are right, definitely some shavers in there. Very excited to know I can bring a razor to shave-ready. Thanks to all for the encouraging words. Now to go figure out how to make scales!

    Cheers,

    -Gabe
