Thanked: 0Wade & Butcher Sheffield - Eye Candy
A old friend of mine had surprised me today with a gift, take a look at this TANK of a razor:
(More Pictures in Post Below)
The information gathered thus far:
"Manufactured
Wade & Butcher
Sheffield"
"The Celebrated
Hollow Ground Razor
For Barber Use"
As well there was a bit of paper in the box...no idea what it's full message was... I'll attach that later, the case for this thing also looks like a mini-coffin.
Alas, Its going to be a fun one to look up the history of this guy. Any contributions in learning it's history would be greatly appreciated...seesh this thing is ridiculous heavy/huge.
Thanks for all of your help!
*EDIT* we found a bit of paper at the bottom of the case, any Sherlock Holmes out there care to help crack what is being said?Last edited by NeilRWiz; 03-20-2012 at 07:32 PM. Reason: More/better photo's obtained & Writing Discovered

W & B's are great razors, send that out for restoration, and when you get it back it'll be one of your all time favorite razors!
Why doesn't the taco truck drive around the neighborhood selling tacos & margaritas???

Nice, IIRC Robert Doyle's "Collecting Straight Razors" say that the 'meat chopper' For Barber's Use were made circa 1850s to about the 1870s. I have a couple and they make good shavers.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

I have and have had a number of these monsters. They are great! I have one that I dont think was ever used.
It is easier to fool people than to convince them they have been fooled. Twain

Can't be positive from photos, but I bet that razor will look A LOT better with just metal polish. I have seen blades with similar looking rust/gunk on them, and it's usually just on the surface and leaves little if any staining.
If you don't have any metal polish, just try buffing it with a cloth.
