Nick, kudos for learning how to remedy the edge. As Glen said, a Norton 4/8 & Nani 12 are just the medicine, though I'd try the stropping route first. Magnification helps to inspect the edge. 'Doesn't have to be fancy - even a 10x loupe helps. 20-30 even better. If funds are an issue, Harbor Freight has them dirt cheap. Glen also had a thread showing a very reasonable lighted loupe that looks very handy.
If all else fails - you know you have help. Send them this way. I suspect you'll be able to get a great edge w/ the tools you mention. If a refresher on using the Norton or Nani is helpful, search Glen's video channel. The Norton was very well shown in his vid w/ 'Speedster', and his Nani progression shows how the slurry is first used, then clear water. Alot of us have benefitted greatly from these vids.

Well, I tried some light laps on the 12k, followed by about 30 on the untreated felt, followed by 50 on leather, and that wasn't enough. So then I did 7 laps on diamond treated felt, followed by leather, and its closer now, but still not where I want it. I'm hesitant to go all the way to the 4k norton at this point. Unless I should just kill the damn edge and start fresh?

I bought a 40X loop with dual white/UV LEDs, free shipping on the bay for $7.
I'm sure there are better ones, but you can't beat the price.
I have to walk to the other end of the house to use my wife's stereo microscope.
