Thanked: 5Gift with EBAY.
Hi everybody in the community . I bought recently this straight raiser . The buyer obviously didn't know what he was selling . He hadn't even done photoes of the item , but in the box . I risked and bought . Then I tried to find some information in this site but it was in vain . However some of straight raisors them loked looked really the same . My item is in a very good condition . I suppose it has rarely been used . Can I ask some questions to experts ? The date of manufacturing ? Are all the details original or it has been restored ? Is the size of 5/8 original ? How can I remove shallow scratchs whithout sandpaper ? Thank you in advance )

Nice find! Someone more qualified will be able to be a little more accurate I'm sure, but it was made after 1890, I know that much. After 1890 they all have Sheffield England, opposed to just Sheffield.

Thanked: 884Nice razor.
I'd be hard pressed to say whether or not it has been apart and polished from those pics. It does appear to have very little wear. As for scratches and stuff? Might try Mother's or MAAS. I use Mother's Mag and Aluminum polish simply because it's easy to find at Wal-Mart. If I ever see any of that MAAS for sale, I grab some. Seems to be a dearth of it in Texas.
As Cove mentioned above, the "SHEFFIELD, ENGLAND" means the razor was made for export in 1891 or later. While that is a good indication of a dating point in time, it is not totally reliable. Items that weren't intended to be exported to the US were not always marked with the country of origin and can be confused with earlier manufactured items.
Good catch on your razor. Should be a FINE shaver.

Nice find. I've always liked Wade & Butcher. I have five of them myself and they're all great shavers. +1 to what Wullie said.....Mother's is great polish.

Thanks for that. I didn't realize that some didn't have the country of origin after 1891.
To Russian, I second the polish. Unless someone else more experienced comes on and says differently, the polish would be the first and possibly only thing to do. I'd also send it to be honed. The 5/8 looks to be original, as there's little to no wear.

I'm all with manah here, lovely razor you got yourself, probably original in all aspects.
One small thing - from the picture it kinda looks like there is some rust in the pivot. Perhaps clean that out with some metal polish on a dental floss thread or something like that, oil it and keep water away from there.
