Default Thiers Issard Dreadnought 7/8 in blue box elder burl

This beauty came today, Thiers Issard 7/8 Dreadnought in Blue Box elder burl after i placed the order with The Invisible edge, this is my first TI and i must say i'm very impressed with the finish and quality of the razor, and also the super service by the invisible edge, the blade as a mirror finish, with the most beautiful grain and colours running through the scales, after sometime going back and forth to look at the razor i just had to go back once more and get it, well i'm so pleased i did now for the photo's.

    Jamie.

I have that blade, and love it Jamie...They take a wicked keen, yet still comfortable edge

That's very pleasing to know Glen, i'm now toying with the idea of stabilizing a piece of blue box elder burr for a brush handle, also thanks to all for your kind comments.

Wow! I very nearly brought one of these a few weeks ago (with buckeye scales) - I changed my mind when I heard that TI's are somewhat hit and miss in terms of factory hone wear...

I sell burlwood for a living, so I hope you dont mind if I chime in. Thats some beautiful burl!

The wood is a Burl, burr is what you get on an edge It can be quite costly if you havent payed for it before (can be $35+ PER POUND of finished wood. Which means the measure it AFTER it has soaked up all the heavy resin and tripled in mass. its hard to get away without spending over $150 for a relatively small piece of wood. Stabilizing services just are not that economical) you end up with a lot of wood lost to warping. You would need to find some dry box elder burl as well, which usually gets snapped up immediately since everyone loves to stabilize it (it grows in the northern US and Canada, can be quite rare. Actually box elder is in the maple family, so maple burl could work as well. It dyes just as easily)

trust me, you are much much better off finding a piece that is already stabilized... Your odds of finding a piece with that high a figure, and getting it to stabilize similarly are quite slim.

seems like a dumb reason to cheat yourself out of a razor! as long as the grinders did their job correctly any mistake on the edge can be fixed!
