Thanked: 44Boker vs Dovo
I have a 5/8 Dovo Special from SRD. I like the width and the flex, but wish it stayed sharp a little longer. How does the Boker King Cutter compare ? A lot more flexy ? Gets a smooth sharp edge easier ? Stays sharper longer &/or requires less stropping ? Or about the same (performance wise) as the Dovo Best Quality, but $30 more expensive ?
Thanks.

I have never used a King Cutter, but from my experience with the few Bokers that I do have "being vintage" they are all great shavers and seem to hold and take an edge well. I am thinking if you were to get the King Cutter you would like it. If you search the forum there are a few posts of King Cutters.

Thanked: 993Please forgive me, this is not meant to offend, merely to garner more information.
How long have you been shaving with a straight razor?
I ask because I wish my Dovo stayed sharper longer too. It was my first razor. It would get dull in about 10-15 shaves. That was then. Now, I can't believe how long my razors go between touchups.
It was Birnando who said this in another post (although not an exact quote): It took me about 3 months to get shaves that were very good, and three months after that I realized what an incorrect assumption that was.

Thanked: 94I have two vintage boker's, one a 6/8th king cutter and the other is a 5/8 1920's with worked spine and I have a 6/8 Dovo best and 6/8 dovo bismark. I would have to say that they all hold edges for a long time (with proper stropping of course). My 6/8 best is a work horse that while not as scary sharp as a C-Mon, holds an edge longer than most of my 55+ blades.
I think its all in the stropping though. For some reason that is the easiest blade to strop and the edge lasts the longest....coincidence??? probably not.
